At the time of this project, I had been in Japan for about three years, when I had become accustomed to its complex garbage disposal system, with different kinds of waste classified into small categories and disposed of on designated days. Back in my home country - Vietnam, there were no such garbage separation rules, instead, it had a custom of selling recyclable items. When I came across the question of whether there was a way to digitize this tradition to make it more convenient for sellers and residents to sell their scraps, I discovered VECA - a scrap-selling app that allows users to book appointments with scrap collectors, and I was intrigued by the idea. With that app as my inspiration, I developed DONA with additional features, creating user scenarios, and designed mobile and web app versions, as well as a landing page to promote the app.
As it was an individual school project, I was responsible for every step of the design process, from research and drafting to wireframing and prototyping. During this project, I learned how to brainstorm, create storyboards, and improved my prototyping skills using Adobe XD. I was highly motivated throughout the project because I believed I was constructing a product that could be of great value to people - an app that could help support environmental changes in Vietnam. It remains one of my favorite designs to date.
